Vesey Place

Hodgetts + Fung was invited to participate in a competition for the Vesey Street Turnaround in Battery Park, New York City.
The proposed public square is to act as a keystone of intensive residential and commercial development in Lower Manhattan.
Bordered by a play-lot and contained within a stone and cast-iron wall, the park boasts an intimate quality that contrasts with the powerful shade structure which lands visual identity as it shields an outdoor market.
This scheme envisions a marketplace, playground, and park assembled as a collage of experience that brings residents and office workers together.

A program of artists’ commissions can design the specially-equipped trucks that bring in the produce, flowers, refreshments and other items.
