Our introduction to the world of computer gaming came when we were invited to conceive and design the interactive environment for Microsoft’s Pavilion at the E3 Expo. At the center, illuminated by the glow of gaming stations, animated chairs lifts gamers to their raised stations high above the convention floor.

The Microsoft Pavilion offered attendees individually designed enclaves rich with references to the games themselves. A monster truck mounted on hydraulic pistons followed the movements from the player’s screen, a squadron of ejector seats outfitted with keyboards and joysticks transported visitors into elevated cockpits and an elevator lowered gamers from a boarding platform into a circular undersea station. We designed full-scale mock-ups of these gaming stations; furnishing elements that defined the new physical integration of virtual gaming consoles.
