HplusF Takes the Mainstage at Design Week Portland

Join HplusF for an all star line-up at Design Week Portland's Mainstage events April 21-22. HplusF helps kick off the week with the talk "How Will Technology Transform Cities?: Designing for Unchartered Territory."  The festival continues through April 29th with a "city-wide series of programs exploring the process, craft, and practice of design across all disciplines."

Hsinming Fung gives back-to-back presentations to high ovation

Hsinming Fung, FAIA gave back-to-back presentations at UCL Bartlett and the USC School of Architecture to much applause. Her weekend in London began with the launch of the book Drawing Futures, featuring her article "What's the Difference" on the speculative and exploratory possibilities of Drawing. She anchored the annual conference with a speech of the same name, and was met with great enthusiasm.

Within less than 24 hours of landing back in America, Fung was a panelist alongside Thom Mayne, Barbara Bestor, and Michael Maltzan at the USC School of Architecture. She discussed with Architectural Record Editor in Chief Cathleen McGuigan the future of architecture, a salient topic following the results of the U.S. election.

Principal Hsinming Fung, FAIA will speak at USC on a panel for Architectural Record on Monday, Nov. 14 in Watt Hall. Alongside Thom Mayne, Barbara Bestor, and Michael Maltzan, she will present her views on emerging futures within architecture.

Craig Hodgetts’ award-winning car models well-received at ArtCenter College of Design


Principal Craig Hodgetts, FAIA presented his award-winning car designs to great enthusiasm at ArtCenter College of Design during the annual ArtCenter Car Classic. The event curates the very best in automotive design, honoring celebrated designers from all over the world.

Hodgetts was invited as a member of the historic Fisher Body Craftsmen Guild. His car designs beat out over 4,000 applicants to win the 1965 Styling Award, which he showcased on the Sinclaire Pavilion, designed by Hodgetts himself and partner Hsinming Fung. Addressing global automotive design leaders, Hodgetts discussed his evolution from the pivotal scholarship to the General Motors Institute to his award-winning architecture practice today.

Craig Hodgetts, FAIA to speak at ArtCenter College of Design

Craig Hodgetts is coming full circle: In 1956, he won the Fisher Body Craftsmen Guild Styling Award, and earned a scholarship to the General Motors Institute, setting his career as a designer in motion.

Now the H+F principal will present his award-winning car designs on the H+F designed Sinclaire Pavilion for the Guild Alumni, at the ArtCenter College of Design. In conjunction with the ArtCenter Car Classic this weekend, Hodgetts will discuss the evolution of a designer who drew upon his experience in engineering, industrial design, and technological manufacture to build his acclaimed practice today.

Hsinming Fung, FAIA to give keynote speech at Bartlett


Amid computational design and technological manufacture, what is the role of Drawing? Its future? What difference does Drawing make?

Principal Hsinming Fung, FAIA will explore these questions in her keynote speech "What's the difference?" at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL during the Drawing Futures conference on Nov. 12.

Fung will elaborate on the invaluable capacities of Drawing in the digital era, and explore the playful, speculative experiments of Vesey Place, LA Arts Park, and Ecotopia, among many others.

H+F to Present Frost Auditorium Renovation Apr. 20

Known for “one of the most ambitious structural concrete domes in Los Angeles,” the modernist 1,200-seat Robert Frost Auditorium at Culver City High School is being adapted by H+F to be used as a performing arts center while being preserved as an iconic performance space. Built in 1963, it has been in continuous use since it was first commissioned. It survived the 6.7 Northridge Earthquake in 1994 and has appeared in sci-fi movies including Gattaca and Woody Allen’s Sleeper

Hitting the High Notes

Craig Hodgetts to Speak at UCLA public lecture series

On Nov. 16, 2015, Craig Hodgetts will discuss the evolution of Hodgetts + Fung at the 2015-16 UCLA Architecture & Urban Design Lecture Series. The lecture will be followed by a dialogue with professor Dana Cuff. 

Craig Hodgetts to Speak at AIA CV Awards

Our founding principal and creative director Craig Hodgetts will deliver the keynote speech at the California capital region’s annual Design Awards. Hosted by AIA Central Valley, the awards will take place at Crocker Art Museum on October 23, 2015 during the “Experience Architecture” weekend. 

Ming Fung presents Peter Eisenman with Award at AIA Convention in Atlanta

In her role as President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, Hodgetts + Fung principal Ming Fung presented esteemed Architect and Educator Peter Eisenman with the AIA/ACSA Topaz Mediallion at the AIA Annual Convention in Atlanta, GA.  

The AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion honors an individual who has been intensely involved in architecture education for more than a decade and whose teaching has influenced a broad range of students.

Craig Hodgetts to Speak at CityAge LA Conference

Craig Hodgetts will be presenting alongside a number of distinguished speakers at the CityAge Conference entitled "Building the Future" in Los Angeles May 28 and 29th. It will be designed to explore the investments, partnerships and ideas that are shaping our urban century. Read more about it on the CityAge Website .

Hodgetts + Fung Celebrate 30 Year Milestone


On Saturday, November 15th Hodgetts + Fung celebrated 30 years of award-winning, engaging, and thoughtful design.  Founders and principals Hsinming Fung and Craig Hodgetts were among the attendees that including current and former staff, colleagues, and friends who came to celebrate the design team’s milestone at their studio in Culver City. 

Founded in 1984, Hodgetts + Fung have become integral to the architectural fabric of Los Angeles; placing their signature on iconic structures throughout the city and inspiring new generations of designers through their career-spanning dedication to architectural education.
